Why do some Japanese women only want men for language exchange? These women say explicitly that they are not looking for relationships, yet they get offended when men try to begin a relationship with them. It’s not your English! It’s your thinking!
When a misunderstanding occurs in a relationship with a foreign man a common response for Japanese women is, "Sorry for my poor English. I need to study English more." To Japanese women, your English is not poor. You are wrong. Please stop saying it! Studying English does not mean you understand the thinking of native English speakers. You probably don't. Thinking and language are different.
A Quest for respect?
An observation: more Japanese women seem to travel abroad to study English than Japanese men. When asked "Why?", Japanese women answer, "I want to talk to many cultures" or "I want to work in a foreign company." Many of the women do not have business degrees and come back to Japan only to earn 200000 to 300000yen a month in low level office positions. The actual opportunities that they may use the English language may only be a few times a year. The investment in going abroad for a year is at least 3000000yen. In America we would say that it is a poor investment of time and money. Sometimes parents pay for their daughters to live abroad, just to study English.
Are American men that good?
Please note that the next two statements ARE NOT the opinions of the author and owner of this site but have been expressed to him on several occasions by American men and Japanese women. 1) Many American men think Japanese women are their sex toys to be used and discarded at will. 2) In Japan many Japanese women date American men so that they can "use or improve their English" or just have the experience of being with an American.
