How to maximize time with your Japanese girlfriend

Japanese women are busier than ever, and building and maintaining a relationship is not a high priority. It’s often difficult for Japanese women to find time to date because of their commitments to work, family, and friends. A man is last on the Japanese woman’s to-do-list – her job, school, family and social obligations come first. No offense, guys – it’s just Japanese culture at work. Japanese women in particular are often faced with a lot of cultural expectations to be busy – no matter what country you happen to see them. They are always attentive at work, and often engaged with a busy social calendar with their group of friends.

Especially for a Western man, all of this means that you might not get to see your Japanese girlfriend as often as you might like! Fortunately, if you are finding it difficult to spend time with your Japanese girlfriend, there are some simple things you can do to keep your relationship alive.

Play “Date Tag”

It’s time to get creative, so make a game out of seeing which of you can find time in your busy schedules to be together. If you use this as a team approach of making time to see each other, it could actually bring you closer together. See who can come up with a creative way to clear space in both of your schedules and plan some special time together.

Make the Time Count

Because you and your girlfriend don’t get to spend a lot of time together, make the time you do get with each other really count. Have dinner together and spend time talking and catching up with each other’s lives. After dinner, skip the movie and take a walk through the city holding hands. Plan special things to do with each other to make the most out of the time you get to spend together.

Use Your Cell Phone

You can use technology to your advantage when you and your girlfriend are really busy and not getting a chance to spend a lot of time together. For example, you can text her with a simple message that says, “Thinking of You” or “How’s Your Day?”

Flirt with each other through e-mails just to keep in touch. Save the boring conversation for another time. If you are not going to see her on a particular day, text her in the morning before she leaves for work just to say good morning and that you hope she has a good day.

Understand Each Other’s Schedules

Everyone has days when all they want to do after work is have something to eat and go to bed. You need to understand that you are not the only one who has days like that. If your girlfriend calls and sounds exhausted and says she just wants to eat and go to bed, offer to bring her some of her favorite take-out food so she won’t have to cook. Not only will this give you time together, but it will also let her know that you understand how she feels, and that you care about her.

Get Rid of the “Small Stuff”

We all have errands and family obligations outside of our jobs we have to do. But instead of dragging your girlfriend all over town while you run your errands, leave your house an hour before you are scheduled to meet her and run your errands yourself. That way the time you spend together can be romantic and meaningful, not hectic and stressful. By taking care of the small stuff you can concentrate on each other and make the most of the time you get to spend together.
